Pastor's Corner

When we consider of the book of Daniel, our minds naturally think "Prophecy." Certainly, the book of Daniel has the most relevant prophecies to our day of any Old Testament book. However, I believe that the stories in the book of Daniel such as:

• Rejecting the king’s food.

• The fiery furnace

• The lion’s den.

are among the most inspiring in the Bible. During the month of September, we will focus on the life of Daniel. As a young man, Daniel was forcibly taken from his homeland. He easily could have lost faith in God. Instead, Daniel served God faithfully in a heathen culture for 70 years. His integrity and wisdom placed him in favor and high standing with four different kings (Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius, and Cyrus). He became the instrument through whom many people came to believe in God. I like this thought from Ellen White,

"We should not labor with the expectation of receiving our reward in this life, but with our eyes fixed steadfastly upon the prize at the end of the race. Men and women are wanted now who are as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men and women who will work without having their way smoothed and every obstacle removed." 5 Testimonies, page 406

What were the secrets to Daniel’s success? Are there parallels between the culture of Babylon and the culture we live in? What lessons can we learn from Daniel’s life? Join me as we open God’s Word and discover truth to live by.
